Our commercial quality large end S-hooks are designed to fasten chain to swing hangers and swing seats to help prevent binding. They are plated to help resist rust. S-hooks that are not bought from a playground manufacturer do not have the quality control and have been known to break with the first “swinger”. Tensile strength is 745 lbs. This product should last 2 years in harsh conditions and up to 5 years in optimal conditions. Some conditions may require replacement sooner.
**Installation, Safe Use and Maintenance Instructions**
IMPORTANT: Please read for important information. In this material we have tried to provide some requirements stated in the CPSC Handbooks, ASTM F2373-11, F1487-11 and F1148-09. However, we in no way intend for this to be a complete list of requirements. Also these publications are updated frequently with changes therefore, you should read these publications yourself to determine if any part or installation could prove a danger to a child.
To help keep children safe from harm, review installation and maintenance instructions before installing equipment. These are located in the description of every product on our website. www.americanswing.com Download and print these instructions and keep in a safe place. Our website also has a “Product Testing Information” page. All products are tested for lead, phthalates and tensile strength. You can also call us at 1-800-433-2573 for more information or see http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/325.pdf.
Installation: Make sure you are using correct size of S-hook. Closing S-hook should not crimp material producing a wear spot on whatever material you are attaching to S-hook. If this occurs, use a larger S-hook to extend life of product. Because S-hooks are often constructed of heavy-duty materials that can withstand significant weight, they are not easy to close. A pair of pliers designed for closing and opening S-hooks, such as our A8000 is necessary. To close S-hooks: Put the S-hook in the front part of the large jaws and close the pliers’ legs and the S-hook will close.Make sure all S-hooks are closed to within .04 to meet ASTM safety standards. To open S-hooks: Use the little jaws at the other end of the pliers’ head. Put the top or outer jaw inside of the closed S-hook. Close the pliers’ legs and the S-hook should open. WARNING: Once the S-hooks have been opened they will have to be replaced to avoid injuries from coming open and/or breaking.
Safe Use: This is for children 0 - 12 years old only. Adults should supervise children at all times. Do not allow children to use unsafely. Do not allow it to be used if damaged.
Maintenance: At beginning and end of each play season and once a month during play season, check for sharp edges and/or cracks in metal. Check for excessive wear. Replace parts as necessary for safety. Make sure S-hooks are closed to within .04 to meet ASTM safety standards. Check for vandalism. Maintain detailed inspection and maintenance records for public-use playground equipment.
Any damage from vandalism, abuse or misuse VOIDS all warranties.

Our swing seat was suspended from the frame by chains connected with 3 four inch "s" hooks on each side. WE had to have a total of six to enjoy it. Some where and or place over the winter storage season one hook was lost.
Solution, buy a hook. However, no one carries a 4 inch hook! That is no one but AMERICAN SWING PRODUCTS!
